We are a full-time, year-round school dedicated to teaching wilderness survival skills. This coming year 2012  will mark our 27th year running this school.  You will not find another survival school that offers a more complete program than we do for anywhere near the price. We only teach 7 day programs at our upstate NY location.  This allows students plenty of time to learn and practice their newly acquired skills. We even allow students to stay on an extra half day to go over some skills that they are not comfortable with. Seminars and workshops do not afford the time or the proper learning environment to really learn everything necessary. We do teach a 3 day condensed program in NC every spring and this coming year have added a 3 day condensed course near Escanaba, Michigan.  Check our courses page.                Finding a good survival school?

Here are a few things I'd recommend you do to help ensure you find a reputable school that will provide you with quality courses.

1.  Ask about where the classes are being held.  Does the school have it's own property or do the students have to meet at some designated place (i.e. state/federal land) that the school has to rent or lease because it doesn't have its own property.  We consider ourselves very fortunate that we own over 537 acres and can utilize it to the betterment of our students without having to worry about following someone else's restrictive regulations.

2.  Check out the instructors.  Does the particular school you're checking into have a list of instructors a mile long?  You don't need a dozen instructors to teach wilderness survival, just a few who know what they're doing.

3.  Don't be afraid to ask for references from an instructor's past experiences or from past students.  If you're checking out an instructor who claims to have taught at another established survival school, ask for the name of that school and then call to verify their claims.

4.  Is the school you are thinking about a full time school or just a hobby someone is trying. A good survival school should be run by someone who can devote their full-time and attention to teaching survival.
